Bass Facts Tool

Largemouth Bass Weight by Length Calculator

Estimate the average weight of a Texas largemouth bass from total length, or calculate relative weight when you have both length and an actual scale weight.

These are estimates, not record weights. TPWD’s conversion table is based on average weights from 3,178 Texas bass. TPWD says the method is not accepted for official fish records and is less accurate than weighing on a certified scale.

Estimate weight from length

Tool 2

Calculate relative weight (Wr)

Why the two tools differ: TPWD’s table is an empirical Texas average used to estimate weight from length. Relative weight compares actual weight with a standardized fisheries equation. They answer related but different questions. For biological context, see How Fast Do Largemouth Bass Grow? and the species profile.

What is relative weight?

Wr = 100 × actual weight ÷ standard weight. The largemouth-bass standard-weight equation used here is log₁₀(Ws) = −5.528 + 3.273 × log₁₀(total length), with total length in millimeters and standard weight in grams.
