50/50 states reviewed
45/50 fully verified rows
5 documented source gaps
9/1/26 last full review
Important: “50 states reviewed” does not mean every historical field is equally complete. The current source ledger records 45 fully verified rows and five documented source gaps. The lighter row highlighting below helps identify visibly omitted fields, but a row can still require qualification even when every displayed field is filled.
How Bass Facts verifies a state-record bassThe strongest responsible authority sets the row. Missing fields stay missing instead of being filled from weaker repetition. 1Responsible authorityStart with the state wildlife agencyor official record program. 2Field-by-field reviewWeight, date, waterbody and anglerare checked independently. 3Conflict handlingAgency evidence outranks copiedlists and inherited values. 4Honest gapsIf the source omits a field, show theuncertainty instead of guessing. Maintenance rule✓ Capture the exact source URL and the date checked.✓ If a record changes, update the current row and retain the previous value in record history.✓ Recheck the responsible authority periodically because state records can change. Authority beats repetition.A clean-looking table is less important than an honest one.
The verification methodology is now integrated directly into the database instead of living on a separate methodology page.

How Bass Facts keeps the records current

1. Recheck the authority

Use the state wildlife agency or recognized record program first. Secondary sites can point to a change but should not silently overwrite the authoritative row.

2. Compare field-by-field

Weight, date, waterbody and angler are separate claims. A current agency page may verify the weight while omitting the historical angler.

3. Preserve record history

When a state record changes, the current table updates—but the prior record should remain in a history layer so Bass Facts can answer “what was the old record?” later.

4. Stamp the review date

Every row should carry source URL, source authority and last-checked date so future maintenance is auditable.

Data model

Search, compare and verify the records

The HTML stays semantic and accessible while the underlying records remain suitable for CSV exports, structured data and future updates.
