The short answer

The bass-themed lighter itself was real, and BIC did operate an individual personalization program in the United States. BIC now says Design My BIC was discontinued in June 2026 and individual custom-lighter orders are no longer accepted.

The original Bass Fishing Facts item

Bass Fishing Facts published a short item about the lighter in November 2018. At the time, the appeal was simple: fishing imagery had made its way onto an everyday object, and BIC was also promoting consumer personalization that let customers submit their own artwork.

The old post was brief, but the photograph is part of the Bass Fishing Facts archive and the topic continued to receive search impressions years later. That makes it a good example of a small legacy page that deserves an updated destination rather than an automatic deletion during migration.

Design My BIC was a real personalization program

BIC’s own 2018 investor presentation described Design My BIC as the company’s first personalized-lighters initiative in the United States. Archived BIC personalization guidance told customers to submit their own artwork and laid out rules for copyrighted material, image quality and acceptable designs.

What changed in 2026?

BIC’s current lighter FAQ answers the question directly: the company says it discontinued Design My BIC in June 2026, so individual personalized-lighter orders are no longer accepted.

BIC still offers custom logo lighters through a separate business program, but that is not the old consumer service. The current BIC Logo Lighter site says it accepts orders from companies or promotional distributors and requires a minimum of 300 lighters for its standard imprint products.

THEN VS. NOW

2018: individual customization. 2026: business-scale logo orders.

The old Bass Fishing Facts page captured the consumer-personalization era. The present-day BIC program is aimed at larger promotional orders instead.
