A repeatable trip routine

Prepare at home, check again before launching, and finish with a return check. Adapt this list to your boat and the water you fish.

This is a practical preparation aid. Equipment and operating rules depend on the vessel and jurisdiction; use the linked authorities and your owner’s manuals for the requirements that apply to you. If you fish from paddlecraft, see Kayak Bass Fishing: Safety, Setup and Positioning for a small-craft version of the same planning approach.

Check boxes as you work. Selections last only while this page stays open; reload for a fresh trip.

Make it your boat’s checklist

Add the steps your equipment needs: an outboard transport support, electronics covers, trolling-motor restraints, livewell controls or a spare-key routine. Keep the sequence consistent so a rushed launch is easier to catch. If a required item is missing or a mechanical problem remains unresolved, postpone departure.

For an evening trip, also work through our night bass fishing guide. Keep rods and exposed hooks out of walkways, and prepare your camera before the catch.
